Extreme Weather Conditions
The League Management Committee is advising all participating clubs to take additional precautions during this period of extremely hot weather.
The advice from Bowls England was given out in July 2022 during a period of Amber weather warnings from the Met Office. This advice is still relevant in today's current extreme weather pattern and clubs should act accordingly
to protect both their and visiting teams members.
Above all use common sense to safeguard all those participating.​

Heat‑Health Alert Recommendations for the

Exeter & District Men’s Over‑60 Triples Bowls League

Club/team captains should monitor national and regional media, or the UKHSA Heat‑Health Alerts website, for South West updates. When an alert is active,

the guidance below applies:

​

Green Alert – Standard Conditions:        Play as normal.

​

Yellow Alert – Elevated Conditions:        Play continues, with Bowls England mitigations applied, including hydration, shade, and breaks. Players with serious health conditions should consider whether they are fit to play.

​

Amber Alert – High‑Risk Conditions:     Captains may decide whether their teams are willing to play. Moving the start time to the evening should be strongly considered. If one team wishes to play and the other does not, the team declining must not be penalised.

The fixture should either:

• be rearranged for another date, or

• have the points shared equally between the teams.

Red Alert – Emergency Conditions:      No Exeter & District Men’s Over‑60s League matches should be played during a Red Heat‑Health Alert.

yellow alert: 27c to 29.9C ​

amber alert:   30C to 37.9C

red alert:        >38C

UK Health Security Agency Heat Health Alert

Heat-Health and Cold-Health Alerts form part of UKHSA’s Weather-Health Alerting system, run with the Met Office. UKHSA also publishes hot weather guidance and advice

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) issues Heat Health Alerts with the Met Office and medical professionals. Although often attributed to the Met Office, the alerts are produced and owned by UKHSA. They are usually issued several days ahead and widely publicised, especially AMBER and RED alerts.
