Extreme Weather Conditions
The League Management Committee is advising all participating clubs to take additional precautions during this period of extremely hot weather.
The advice from Bowls England was given out in July 2022 during a period of Amber weather warnings from the Met Office. This advice is still relevant in today's current extreme weather pattern and clubs should act accordingly
to protect both their and visiting teams members.
Above all use common sense to safeguard all those participating.

EXTREME WEATHER GUIDANCE

The Met Office has extended an Amber extreme heat warning as temperatures build later this week and into early next week for much of England.
The Amber warning, which has been issued for Sunday (17 July) and Monday (18 July), highlights likely adverse health effects for the public – not just limited to those most vulnerable to extreme heat.
Temperatures could be in excess of 35°C in the southeast, and more widely around 32°C within the warning area.
With the outdoor bowls season in full swing, we wished to provide guidance for players and officials ahead of the weekend. Whilst common sense should apply, we have prepared the below to further assist:
ALL BOWLS ACTIVITY:
• Keep hydrated (water) and avoid dehydrating alcoholic and caffeinated drinks.
• Wherever possible, stay out of the sun. Try to avoid physical exertion at the hottest times of the day, and always remember to put on a hat and wear sunscreen.
• Consider rescheduling the time of matches to avoid the middle of the day between 11am-3pm and/or reducing the number of ends played (subject to mutual agreement of both parties)
REMEMBER team captains have the option of playing matches in this weather with the proviso that they can shorten the games to 12 ends (24 ENDS FOR A MATCH) to get a result, as Allowed for under Clause 8.10 of the current constitution and Rules of the league.
THE MORE MATCHES THAT CAN BE PLAYED TO A RESULT DURING THIS SPELL OF EXTREME HEAT WILL EASE PRESSURE ON COMPLETING MATCHES TOWARDS THE END OF THE LEAGUE SEASON WHEN THERE TENDS TO BE A BACKLOG OF GAMES TO BE PLAYED.
